Not sure what ergonomics is or whether or not you are at risk?

Ergonomics defined.

Ergonomics is defined by The Free Dictionary as “the applied science of equipment design, as for the workplace, intended to maximize productivity by reducing operator fatigue and discomfort”.

Are you at risk?

If you sit at a desk for more than one consecutive hour every day you may be at risk.  80% of adults suffer from pain related to repetitive movements and positions and it may be avoidable!  Prolonged sitting not only has a negative effect on your body, but it also has a negative impact on productivity!

What can an ergonomic assessment do for you?

OSHA case studies have shown that good ergonomics can improve productivity by 11%.  Sitting appropriately can reduce the stress in your neck, shoulder and back.  Without the distraction of physical discomfort, you can think more clearly and concentrate better.

Work surfaces and furnishing should be ergonomically appropriate for the primary user

All areas where activities occur, particularly those that are repetitive, should be designed for task performance and minimize fatigue and repetitive stress and strain by fitting the body size, strength, and range of motion of the user.  These areas may include, but are not limited to, your work or home office and your vehicle if you travel extensively for work.

Adjustability is the key

Office furnishings, which are generally available, have adjustable components that enable the user to modify the workstation to accommodate different physical dimensions and the requirements of the job. Home furnishings, while typically devoid of adjustable components, do come in a large array of sizes and styles and should be chosen with ergonomic guidelines in mind.  Ergonomically designed furniture can reduce pain and injury, increase productivity, improve morale, and decrease complaints.
